This is a recreation of Picture Poker, as seen in Super Mario 64 DS and New Super Mario Bros., made with TIC-80. If you've played it before, this is pretty much the same game, but now in a different style and more portable.

The entire game was made by me, including code, art, and music/sfx.

Differences

This game plays almost identically to the original game. There are only two key differences:

  • Your minimum bet does not increase.
  • The "score" is replaced with your "streak" (indicated as STRK), which indicates how many times in a row you've won.
There's also a settings menu on the bottom right, so you can turn off the music or sound effects.

Instructions

For each round, your objective is to get the best hand. The possible hands you can get are as follows, from best to worst:

  1. Flush: All 5 cards match — 16x multiplier for bet
  2. 4-of-a-kind: 4 of 5 cards match — 8x multiplier for bet
  3. Full House: 3 cards match, and the other 2 form a different match — 6x multiplier for bet
  4. 3-of-a-kind: 3 cards match, but the other 2 don't — 4x multiplier for bet
  5. Two pairs: Two pairs of cards match — 3x multiplier for bet
  6. One pair: One pair of cards match — 2x multiplier for bet
  7. Junk: All cards are different — 1x multiplier for bet

If your hand is better than your opponent's hand, you win, and you get your bet multiplied by the multiplier for your hand. If not, you lose, you lose your bet.

If your hand is the same as your opponent's hand, the winner is determined by the value of the cards in your hand. The value of each card is shown on the bottom left, with higher icons indicating higher value. Before the winner is shown, your hand is sorted into groups, then by value; the highest valued group determines the winner, and if they are the same, the next group determines the winner, and so on. If your hands are identical, you tie, and you get back your bet.

At the start of your round, you are dealt 5 random cards. You can choose to select any of your cards to swap out for new random cards (a HIT) or to keep your hand (a HOLD). You can also choose to bet more coins: by default you bet one coin, but you can choose to bet up to five. The higher your bet, the more coins you'll win or lose.
